I am "an applied" mathematician and "control engineer" who believes in the following quote from Kurt Lewin, a pioneer in organizational psychology,
"There is nothing as practical as a good theory."
I value the first principle the most in developing a good theory. At the same time, I appreciate the actual findings from the experimental research to invigorate the good theory. My research lab continues to close the gap between modern control theory and robotics application control. A more practical motto of my lab (borrowed from my mentor Erik I. Verriest) is
"To have a great idea, you need many ideas" (Linus Pauling).
I am open to discussing limitless ideas on math, control theory, robotics, and physics with students, which can only motivate each other throughout the brain-storming sessions.
